Afghans taking time out on Bibi Mahro Hill, Wazir Akbar Khan, Kabul
Hello from Kabul.
This photo is from Bibi Mahro Hill where you’ll see an empty Olympic size swimming pool and the pole which used to carry a huge flag, taken down when the Taliban took over. People head up the hill to see Kabul, sit a while. The boy raced me up the three tiers of diving platforms. He won. Men prayed on the grass. Boys took photos for visitors. Night fell around us.
I’ve been here for a month and it has moved from bone chilling winter to the sun warming us most days. There is still snow in places. People are struggling, thankfully aid is coming in. Afghans complain they are starting from zero again, glad the war is over but that they need help.
I’m hoping to get back on the road with my camera soon so should start posting here again soon. The plan is to leave in the summer and head to somewhere new. Spinning a globe in my mind. All the best from here.
