Make Them Pay

Hundreds gathered outside the BBC in London, on the 20th of September 2025, to march to Downing Street, protesting against the lack of tax being collected from billionaires. Multiple grievances were displayed from getting billionaires out of fashion to taxing those who pollute the planet, the overarching argument was that billionaires were not paying taxes and the majority of people in the country were struggling. The crowd arrived at Downing Street where last week Elon Musk, the world’s richest man was beamed onto three large screens telling a large number of people struggling with a range of problems, including poverty, that they needed to ‘fight back or die’, several on this march thought his influence in UK politics to be troublesome. Some expressed their disappointment in Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana who are in disagreement over the newly formed Your Party, people said they felt it was a moment but the left couldn’t seem to keep it together. A man driving a van on Regent Street, stopped to tell the protestors they were wasting their time. A young woman told them to get a job. The crowd carried on, chanting “Hey hey, ho ho, Billionaires have got to go”, “Power to the people, The people have the power”, “Stop it, come off it, The enemy is profit”. Attending were Zack Polanski, Brian Eno, Tori Tsui, Faiza Shaheen, Peter Thatchell and Reverend Helen Burnett who said in her speech she had a t-shirt ‘which proclaims the words of Mary: cast down the mighty, lift up the lowly, send the rich away empty’. Brian Eno had in his speech warned of billionaires buying our media and telling the people what to do, he said “Just as the extremely rich come to believe they are intrinsically superior, the poor come to believe they are worthless. They come to see the whole system as being set up against their interests, and when a rich person like Paul Marshall buys a radio presence like GB News and incessantly reminds them of that, and then tells them who to blame, you have the recipe for fascism. It’s divide and rule.”
